Following your country is never just a hobby.
It builds over time.
Moments that slowly turn into something deeper, something incredibly hard to walk away from.
Because international tournaments are different.
And for England fans, they always carry a sense of possibility.
Hope.
But the modern game has changed.
Costs have risen, and what was once achievable is now becoming increasingly difficult to sustain.
Especially at the 2026 World Cup.
This edition is set to be the most costly for foreign fans.
Spread across three countries; a logistical challenge as much as a footballing one.
And that changes everything for supporters.
According to the Mirror, one England fan has taken an extraordinary step to make sure he does not miss it, selling his entire house to fund his journey to the World Cup.
That decision did not come lightly.
Following England across North America means constant travel, with rising accommodation prices in major host locations.
It adds up quickly.
Far beyond what most would consider reasonable.
But this is not about reason.
It is about commitment.
The supporter had been weighing the idea for some time, fully aware of the financial demands that come with a tournament of this scale.
And those demands are only increasing.
The expanded format means more games.
It is a full experience.
Which is what makes this story stand out.
Because while many fans are being priced out, some are finding extreme ways to stay part of it.
There is also a wider reflection here.
Football, at its highest level, is becoming increasingly exclusive.
Major tournaments demand more financially than ever before, and the gap between those who can attend and those who cannot continues to grow.
And while selling a house may seem extreme, it highlights just how far the modern fan experience has moved.
Because for some, being there is not optional.
It is everything.
