Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager. The Italian will replace Igor Tudor, who had a horrible run as the manager of the Spurs.
The Croatian finished his tenure without a win in the Premier League. Also, his tenure lasted for just 44 days, and it brought the Spurs close to relegation.
They are just a point above the relegation zone. Now, De Zerbi will have a tough task of saving the Spurs from relegation. His job will become even tougher because of the injury crisis at the club.
With over 10 players currently sidelined because of injuries, Roberto De Zerbi will have perhaps the biggest challenge of his coaching career when he selects the playing XI against Sunderland.
However, the reason the Spurs appointed De Zerbi is not just because the Italian will save the club from relegation. They want him to take the club to the next level.
Reportedly, the Spurs are paying a massive salary to De Zerbi to take up the job at this stage of the season as he was not ready to take up the role.
De Zerbi wanted to take up the job from next season. However, Tottenham didn’t want to go down the road of appointing another interim.
Now, Roberto De Zerbi will have players in his mind he would like the Spurs to sign. And the Italian manager has already informed the board about one player he wants them to sign.
According to Calciomercato, Roberto De Zerbi wants Tottenham Hotspur to sign Manuel Locatelli in the summer. Locatelli and De Zerbi were together in Sassuolo.
The Italian wanted to sign the midfielder for Marseille during his time in France. Locatelli had his breakthrough under De Zerbi, which ensured a move to Juventus.
Roberto De Zerbi wants to transform the midfield of Tottenham next summer. And, he would like to start that transformation by signing Manuel Locatelli.
