Steven Gerrard could be closing in on a return to management after months out of the game.
The former England international has remained without a club since leaving Al-Ettifaq in January 2025, but fresh developments now point towards a possible comeback.
The 45-year-old has already attracted interest from multiple clubs. Bristol City have monitored his situation as they prepare for a managerial change once Roy Hodgson steps aside.
However, another opportunity has now moved ahead in the race. Gerrard built his reputation at Rangers after taking charge in 2018.
The Liverpool legend guided the club to the Scottish Premiership title in the 2020-21 season, ending a 10-year drought.
That success earned him a move to Aston Villa in November 2021, but his spell there lasted less than a year after a difficult run of results.
Since leaving Saudi Arabia, Gerrard has stayed involved in football through punditry.
He worked with TNT Sports during the FA Cup semi-final last weekend and also covered Champions League action earlier this week.
Despite that, he has continued to wait for the right opportunity to return to the dugout. That opportunity could now come from the Premier League.
A club has recently made a major decision after a poor run of results, which has opened the door for a new appointment.
Burnley have sacked Scott Parker following their relegation, despite the 45-year-old leading them to promotion last season.
The decision came after internal meetings with the board, as the club look to reset quickly. Mike Jackson has stepped in as interim manager for the remainder of the campaign.
However, Burnley have already started assessing long-term options, and according to The Sun, Gerrard has now emerged as a leading candidate for the role.
But it seems, the former Liverpool midfielder will have to start the tenure as the Burnely manager in the Championship.
