Marcus Rashford casts doubt over his Barcelona future

Those comments immediately sparked fresh doubt over whether Rashford will remain at Barcelona next season.

Marcus Rashford helped fire Barcelona to the La Liga title on Sunday night after producing one of the biggest moments of El Clasico.

The England international scored a stunning free-kick during Barca’s victory over Real Madrid as Hansi Flick’s side officially secured the league crown with games still remaining.

Rashford has enjoyed an impressive season in Spain since arriving on loan from Manchester United last summer.

The 28-year-old has registered 14 goals and 14 assists across all competitions and has quickly become a fan favourite at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona still hold a £26 million option to make the move permanent, although reports suggest the Spanish champions are attempting to negotiate a lower fee.

Manchester United, however, reportedly remain unwilling to lower their valuation.

That uncertainty has now placed fresh attention on Rashford’s future after his emotional comments following the title victory.

Speaking after the match, Rashford admitted he wants to remain in Spain. He said to the BBC Sport:

“I don’t know. I am not a magician, but if I was, I would stay. We will see. This is a wonderful team, they’re going to win so much in the future; to be a part of that would be special.”

The forward also described Barcelona as his “second team” and called the move a dream.

However, Rashford later created fresh uncertainty during a separate interview with ESPN. He said:

“This is the perfect way I want it to end. I’m very happy, I just want to enjoy today. At the end of the season we will see.”

Those comments immediately sparked fresh doubt over whether Rashford will remain at Barcelona next season.

Reports suggest another loan move currently appears more realistic than a permanent transfer because of ongoing negotiations between both clubs.

Manchester United’s hierarchy are still believed to prefer a permanent sale this summer, while Rashford himself reportedly has little interest in returning to Old Trafford.
