Serie A star gets his own £20 limited-edition note

Bank of Scotland unveil limited-edition  Scott McTominay £20 note.

Some moments in sport become folklore almost instantly.

Scott McTominay’s overhead kick against Denmark at Hampden Park was one of those moments.

And now, it’s been immortalised in the most unexpected of ways.

Bank of Scotland unveil limited-edition  Scott McTominay £20 note

According to the BBC, the Bank of Scotland has created a limited-edition £20 banknote featuring an image inspired by Scott McTominay’s spectacular goal.

The moment that set Scotland on the road to the 2026 World Cup and ended a 28-year wait for the nation’s men’s team to appear at the tournament.

Only 100 notes have been printed, with 50 available to the public.

The design was created in collaboration with McTominay himself and brought to life by Scottish illustrator Katie Smith.

The goal itself came in November, during Scotland’s 4-2 victory over Denmark at Hampden.

McTominay opened the scoring with a perfectly executed bicycle kick in the early minutes.

A moment so striking that it immediately took on a life of its own beyond the result.

Thus, that image now sits on a banknote.

His journey to this point has been remarkable in its own right.

McTominay spent 20 years at Manchester United before making the move to Napoli in a £25.7 million deal in 2024.

His debut season in Serie A was extraordinary.

Napoli won the Scudetto and McTominay was named Serie A Most Valuable Player.

He also received a Ballon d’Or nomination.

And alongside all of that, he was helping Scotland qualify for a World Cup for the first time since 1998.

For McTominay, the banknote is the latest chapter in what has been the most remarkable 18 months of his career.

A Serie A title, an MVP award.

And more importantly, a World Cup qualification

Now, however, his own face is on Scottish currency.
