Barcelona are wasting no time in reshaping their attack after moving closer to securing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.
The Catalan giants already view the England winger as one of the first major pieces of Hansi Flick’s new-look frontline.
However, Barcelona’s summer ambitions reportedly stretch much further than just one signing. Now, attention inside the club fully shifted towards another blockbuster target.
According to SPORT, Barcelona are preparing an opening proposal worth around €90 million plus add-ons for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez.
The move comes after sporting director Deco held a direct meeting with Alvarez’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, on Wednesday.
Reports in Spain suggest Barcelona already accelerated negotiations significantly following that meeting.
The club reportedly established a strict financial limit of around €100 million for the Argentine striker and believe the planned offer fits within those boundaries.
Still, everyone inside Barcelona understands this operation will be far more complicated than the Anthony Gordon deal.
Atletico Madrid remain determined to protect one of the biggest stars of their project and will demand an enormous fee before even considering negotiations.
Paris Saint-Germain also continue pushing strongly for Alvarez, while Arsenal remain attentive to the situation behind the scenes.
Despite the growing competition, Barcelona reportedly feel meaningful progress has already been made.
During recent conversations, club officials encouraged Alvarez to make his preferred destination clear to Atletico Madrid.
Inside Barcelona, there is now belief that the player already signalled his desire to join the Spanish champions despite interest from elsewhere.
Hansi Flick reportedly played an important role personally. The Barcelona manager is understood to have spoken directly with Alvarez several times during recent months.
Now, Barcelona want to keep pushing until the very end as they look to get this deal over the line.
