Chelsea endured another frustrating Premier League campaign despite showing flashes of promise across multiple competitions last season.
The Blues finished 10th in the league and missed out on European football after struggling badly for consistency during the second half of the campaign.
Chelsea also went through several managerial changes before eventually appointing Xabi Alonso ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Despite the domestic disappointment, the club still enjoyed some memorable moments.
Chelsea won the FIFA Club World Cup after defeating PSG 3-0 in the final, while Joao Pedro, Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez all produced strong individual campaigns.
However, defensive instability remained one of the club’s biggest problems throughout the season.
Chelsea conceded heavily across all competitions and now appear determined to strengthen key areas of the squad this summer.
According to SportMediaset via MilanNews, Chelsea are actively searching for a new first-choice goalkeeper because Xabi Alonso is not fully convinced by the current options at Stamford Bridge.
Transfer News Live reported that Chelsea initially attempted to sign Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar and even submitted a €50 million offer.
However, Roma rejected the proposal and made it clear they do not want to lose the Serbian goalkeeper this summer.
Chelsea have now reportedly turned their attention towards AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
The Blues already tried to sign the French international last year before Milan eventually removed him from the market. Maignan recently extended his contract with AC Milan until 2030.
However, the goalkeeper wants clarity over Milan’s sporting direction following major uncertainty behind the scenes at the Italian club.
The report also claims Maignan could seriously consider Chelsea’s proposal if Milan fail to provide a clear long-term project soon.
For now, Chelsea continue assessing the market as Xabi Alonso prepares for his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
