The World Cup is only just underway, but one national team is already facing major turmoil.
Several nations entered the tournament hoping to build momentum and make a deep run in North America.
However, one disastrous result has triggered questions about the future of a manager who only took charge a few months ago.
Tunisia endured a nightmare start to their World Cup campaign after suffering a heavy 5-1 defeat against Sweden.
The result has reportedly sparked serious concerns within the Tunisian Football Federation and could lead to a managerial change before the team’s next match.
Sabri Lamouchi is now reportedly on the brink of losing his job.
The former Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City manager only took charge of Tunisia in January. So far, he has overseen just five matches since his appointment.
According to Mosaique FM, senior figures within the Tunisian delegation requested an emergency meeting following the defeat to discuss Lamouchi’s future.
Former Sunderland midfielder Wahbi Khazri, who currently serves as Lamouchi’s assistant, has emerged as a possible replacement if a change is made.
The situation appears to have become even more complicated following reports of unrest inside the camp.
Reports have claimed that fights broke out both after the final whistle and later at the team hotel.
Mosaique FM also reported an alleged altercation involving a supporter and Lamouchi’s son.
Questions about his son’s presence around the squad have become a talking point in Tunisia following the defeat. Lamouchi addressed those concerns during a press conference.
The Tunisia manager insisted that his son plays no role in team selection. Also, he has no official position within the setup.
He explained that his son is currently working on his thesis and was only present around the group in a personal capacity. Lamouchi also expressed frustration at the focus on off-field matters.
The coach urged attention to remain on Tunisia’s football preparations and their remaining World Cup group-stage matches.
