Aston Villa make shock decision after star agrees personal terms with European giants

Villa must make several significant decisions before the new season kicks off.

Aston Villa face an important summer as Unai Emery prepares for another demanding campaign. The club secured Champions League qualification and continues to build on recent progress.

However, Villa must make several significant decisions before the new season kicks off. Unai Emery’s side need to balance squad planning with long-term financial considerations.

That process could lead to the departure of one of the club’s biggest names. Emiliano Martinez has remained a key figure since arriving at Villa Park.

The Argentina international has helped establish Villa among the Premier League’s strongest sides. However, speculation surrounding his future has continued for more than a year.

There is now a growing belief that his time at the club could be nearing an end. According to Football Insider, Aston Villa have accepted the likelihood of Martinez leaving this summer.

As per the report, the goalkeeper wants a new challenge. While Emery would prefer to keep the experienced shot-stopper, plans are already being made for life without him.

The strongest interest currently comes from Italy. Juventus have emerged as the most likely destination for the 33-year-old goalkeeper.

Transfer News Live earlier reported that Martinez has already agreed personal terms with the Serie A giants. However, Juventus must still reach an agreement with Aston Villa before any deal can progress.

Villa remain in a strong negotiating position because Martinez remains under contract until 2029. The club therefore has no intention of accepting a cut-price offer.

Interest from Italy is not limited to Juventus. Inter Milan have also monitored Martinez closely for an extended period. Nevertheless, Juventus currently appear to be leading the race for his signature.

Finding a successor for Martinez will not be straightforward because of his importance to the team. Even so, Villa have reportedly drawn up a shortlist of targets.

Newcastle United and Leeds United have both tracked the goalkeeper. However, Aston Villa are strong contenders if Trafford becomes available.
