World Cup nation banned from flying into Seattle

The 2026 World Cup has presented teams with unique challenges away from the pitch this summer.

With matches spread across across the United States, Canada and Mexico, national teams have spent significant time managing travel schedules and recovery plans.

As the group stage approaches its conclusion, every decision has become increasingly important. Several nations are now looking for ways to reduce travel demands before decisive fixtures.

One team recently attempted to adjust its plans ahead of a crucial group-stage match.

The proposal would have allowed the players to remain closer to their next venue and avoid an additional journey during a busy period of the tournament.

However, the request did not receive approval. Security officials rejected the proposal and instructed Egypt to follow its original itinerary instead.

The decision has forced the team to make an extra trip before returning for its next World Cup match.

According to the Daily Mail, Egypt asked for permission to remain in Seattle after their latest fixture rather than travel back to their training base in Spokane, Washington.

The Egyptian Football Association believed the arrangement would help players recover more effectively ahead of a key Group G encounter against Iran.

Egypt manager Hossam Hassan confirmed the situation. He explained that the team wanted to stay in Seattle to minimise travel fatigue.

However, security authorities refused the request, meaning the squad had to return to Spokane before travelling again for the Iran match.

The setback arrives at an important moment in Egypt’s campaign. The Pharaohs boosted their qualification hopes with a 3-1 victory over New Zealand.

The result strengthened their position in Group G and increased the significance of their final group-stage fixture.

With knockout-stage qualification on the line, Egypt will hope the additional travel does not disrupt their World Cup ambitions.
