Chelsea agree personal terms with Marc Cucurella’s replacement

The Blues have already been busy in the transfer market.

Chelsea are determined to rebuild after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign.

A season filled with managerial upheaval ended in a 10th-place finish before the club turned to Xabi Alonso to lead a fresh project at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have already been busy in the transfer market. Marco Palestra is set to strengthen the right side of the defence.

Also, Jorrel Hato has moved into a bigger first-team role following Marc Cucurella’s move to Real Madrid.

However, Chelsea are still looking for another left-back. The club has already made an opening €9 million bid for Pep Chavarria, although Rayo Vallecano rejected that proposal.

Chavarria enjoyed an impressive campaign with the Spanish club last season. The 28-year-old made 44 appearances in all competitions while helping Rayo Vallecano reach the UEFA Conference League final.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have now agreed personal terms with Pep Chavarria after the defender gave his approval to the move.

The update represents another major step towards completing the transfer. While Chelsea and Rayo Vallecano have not yet reached a full agreement, negotiations between the two clubs are continuing.

The report also highlights Alonso’s influence behind the deal. The new Chelsea head coach values Chavarria’s ability to operate both as a traditional left-back and as an attacking wing-back.

Chelsea now appear to have the player’s commitment. Their focus will shift towards reaching an agreement with Rayo Vallecano to complete the transfer.

If negotiations continue to progress, Chavarria could become another important addition as Alonso reshapes Chelsea’s squad ahead of the new season.
