Liverpool continue to reshape their squad following the arrival of Andoni Iraola at Anfield.
The club has already strengthened its defence after securing deals for Jeremy Jacquet and Geovanni Leoni, while preparations continue for further additions across the squad.
The Reds are also placing a major emphasis on recruiting elite young talent capable of becoming first-team stars in the coming years. Their latest target fits that profile perfectly after a stunning rise over the last 12 months.
According to El Universal (via BBC Sport), Liverpool have opened talks with the representatives of Mexico midfielder Gilberto Mora as they explore a summer deal for the teenager.
Liverpool officials have already made direct contact to understand the conditions of a potential transfer.
The club views Mora as one of the brightest young attacking talents in world football and wants to position itself strongly before the race intensifies. The 17-year-old remains under contract with Club Tijuana until 2029.
Reports in Mexico suggest his current deal includes a release clause worth between £18 million and £20 million.
It is a figure Liverpool are prepared to meet if negotiations progress positively. However, FIFA regulations prevent an immediate move to England. Mora cannot complete an international transfer until he turns 18 on October 14.
Liverpool are therefore working on preliminary agreements that could allow the deal to proceed later in the year. Mora enhanced his reputation significantly during the 2026 World Cup.
He started three matches for Mexico and became one of the youngest players ever to feature at the tournament during his country’s run to the Round of 16. His performances have attracted attention from several European giants.
Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City have all monitored his development closely in recent months. Liverpool will hope their early approach will give them an advantage in this race.
