Manchester United set sights on teenage World Cup star

Manchester United continue to look beyond the immediate transfer market as Michael Carrick’s rebuild gathers pace.

The Red Devils have already returned to the Champions League. But the club also want to secure elite young talent before rivals move ahead. That search has now taken them to Mexico.

There is a teenage talent who has caught the attention of almost every major club in Europe.

According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United had scouts at the Azteca Stadium to watch Gilberto Mora during Mexico’s 3-0 win over the Czech Republic.

The 17-year-old produced another standout display as Mexico completed a perfect World Cup group-stage campaign.

The Club Tijuana attacking midfielder received a standing ovation when he left the pitch late in the match. United were not alone in watching him.

Representatives from City Football Group and BlueCo also reportedly attended the game, while several European giants continue to monitor his development.

The report adds that Manchester United have been the most aggressive Premier League club in their pursuit.

They have maintained regular contact over Mora’s progress and want to position themselves strongly for a future move.

However, United face a major challenge from Real Madrid. The Spanish giants are widely viewed as Mora’s most likely eventual destination. It is because the teenager identifies Madrid as his dream club.

Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, PSG, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are also among his admirers.

Mora has played senior football since the age of 15. He also became a full Mexico international at 16 before becoming the youngest player to start a World Cup match since 2002.

Mora signed a new three-year contract with Club Tijuana before the World Cup and cannot realistically move to Europe before turning 18 in October 2027.
