Manchester United prepare January move for Brighton star

Any January agreement will depend heavily on whether United can satisfy Brighton’s substantial financial demands.

Manchester United have endured a difficult opening to the season under Michael Carrick. United have struggled for consistency across domestic and European competitions during the opening months.

Their Premier League campaign began with a 2-0 defeat against newly-promoted Hull City. A convincing 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town followed, but United have since struggled to build momentum.

Their Champions League campaign has also included defeats against Atletico Madrid and Como. United spent heavily rebuilding their midfield during the summer transfer window.

Carlos Baleba arrived from Brighton for £65 million, while Andrey Santos cost £48 million from Chelsea.

Youri Tielemans also joined from Aston Villa after United triggered his £35 million release clause.

Despite that significant investment, the club are already considering another major addition for January.

According to Hooligan Soccer, Manchester United are preparing a January move for Brighton midfielder Diego Gomez.

United have closely monitored the 23-year-old alongside Arsenal and Atletico Madrid.

Scouts from the interested clubs watched Gomez during Brighton’s recent matches against Arsenal, Sunderland and Crystal Palace.

However, United currently appear the most determined club to make a concrete winter move. Their scouting reports have encouraged the club to allocate funds towards a possible January offer.

Brighton strengthened their negotiating position by extending Gomez’s contract until June 2031 in August.

The Seagulls could consequently demand between €50 million and €60 million before considering a sale.

Gomez originally joined Brighton from Inter Miami for €13 million in 2023. His current market valuation has since reached around €30 million.

The Paraguay international offers versatility across several midfield roles and can also operate in wider positions.

Arsenal continue monitoring his development, while Atletico Madrid retain long-term interest.

United, however, currently lead the pursuit as they consider strengthening Carrick’s options during the winter window.

Any January agreement will depend heavily on whether United can satisfy Brighton’s substantial financial demands.
