Mohamed Salah set to sign for Al Hilal

Mohamed Salah set to join Al Hilal on £20m-per-year deal as Saudi dream transfer edges toward completion.

Nine years, 228 goals.

And eight trophies.

One of the most extraordinary individual careers English football has ever witnessed.

Mohamed Salah left Liverpool when his contract expired at the end of June.

His next chapter is now coming into focus.

And it is heading to Saudi Arabia.

Mohamed Salah set to join Al Hilal on £20m-per-year deal as Saudi dream transfer edges toward completion

According to The Sun, Al Hilal have made Salah their absolute priority attacking target, with the Saudi giants preparing a contract worth approximately €20 million per season across three years, with an option for a fourth.

The total package could reach €80 million.

That figure is actually lower than some of the astronomical numbers previously attached to Saudi interest in Salah.

With the reality of the market having shifted since the peak years of the Saudi Pro League’s European recruitment drive.

But given Saudi Arabia’s tax arrangements, Salah would still comfortably exceed his Liverpool earnings in real terms.

European options existed.

And clubs like Barcelona were mentioned.

But Salah is 34 years old.

He currently lead Egypt’s line at the World Cup, contributing a goal and two assists across the group stage.

And any decision is expected to wait until his international commitments conclude.

The lure of one final enormous contract, at a club with genuine ambitions of signing the best players in the world, may prove impossible to resist.

Yet, the Saudi chapter is calling.
