Liverpool have moved to secure the future of one of the club’s most influential players after months of uncertainty surrounding his long-term plans at Anfield.
Dominik Szoboszlai has now ended speculation by committing himself to the Reds’ project under Andoni Iraola.
The Hungary international enjoyed the finest season of his Liverpool career during the 2025-26 campaign.
Despite Liverpool enduring a disappointing year that ended with a fifth-place finish and Arne Slot’s departure, Szoboszlai consistently delivered at the highest level.
He scored 13 goals and supplied 12 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions.
He also demonstrated remarkable versatility by featuring in several positions throughout the season, including an emergency role at right-back during Liverpool’s injury crisis.
Those performances earned him Liverpool’s Men’s Player of the Season award.
He also became the first Liverpool midfielder since Steven Gerrard in 2014 to record double figures for both goals and assists in a single campaign.
His form naturally attracted attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Real Madrid and Manchester City both monitored his situation closely.
Meanwhile, reports suggested another elite European side had already begun planning a future move. Liverpool, however, never wanted discussions over his future to drag into the coming years.
The club accelerated negotiations with the midfielder and quickly reached an agreement over fresh terms.
Liverpool officially confirmed on Friday that Dominik Szoboszlai had signed a new long-term contract, ending any lingering doubts over his future at the club.
The agreement keeps the 25-year-old at Anfield until 2031 and places him among Liverpool’s highest earners.
It also strengthens his importance within Iraola’s rebuilding project as the club prepares for a new era following several high-profile departures in recent years.
