Leeds United sign World Cup star for their second biggest transfer in history

Pascal Struijk left for Brighton earlier this summer.

Leeds United needed a replacement.

Someone left-footed.

Dominant in the air.

Capable of stepping straight into a Premier League side with genuine ambitions.

They’ve found him.

And they’ve paid their second highest transfer fee in history to get it done.

Leeds United sign Tarik Muharemovic as £34m deal with Sassuolo makes him their second most expensive signing

According to the BBC, Leeds United have reached an agreement with Sassuolo worth £34.1 million for the 23-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international, with Muharemovic flying into Leeds Bradford Airport for a medical and to finalise personal terms.

The deal would represent the most expensive transfer in the 49ers Enterprises ownership era.

And it comes directly off the back of a World Cup in which Muharemovic established himself as one of the tournament’s most impressive young centre-backs.

Bosnia and Herzegovina reached the round of sixteen in North America, and the left-sided defender was one of the primary reasons.

His composure under pressure, aerial dominance and ability to carry the ball out from the back made him one of the standout performers from a nation making their World Cup debut.

His profile is a direct response to the Struijk departure.

Brighton paid significant money for the Dutchman earlier in the summer, and Daniel Farke identified a left-footed centre-back with Premier League-ready qualities as the non-negotiable replacement.

Muharemovic fits that brief precisely.

He came through the Juventus academy before establishing himself at Sassuolo in Serie A, a path that has equipped him with the technical foundations and defensive intelligence that top-flight football demands.

At 23, he is arriving at the peak of his developmental window.

There is still ceiling to unlock.

And Leeds are backing themselves to unlock it.
