Nottingham Forest’s 2024/25 season can be divided into two thought processes.
On the one hand, Forest fans would have been more than happy with a seventh-place finish at the start of the season.
This is after a 16th place and 17th place finish and a four-point deduction in the two seasons that proceeded.
On the other hand, there is a level of anticlimax for a lot of Forest fans and an element of what could have been.
A 1-0 win over Manchester United on April 1st kept them in third place.
They ended the day eight points clear of fourth place Chelsea.
The BBC Sport match report of that win stated “it is hard to see how Nuno Espirito Santo’s side fail to secure Champions League football from here.”
However, in the eight games that followed, they only won twice. These came against 17th place Tottenham Hotspur and 14th place West Ham United.
Two draws and four losses meant that Forest ended the season just a point off Champions League football.
They will instead play in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
This is still a fantastic achievement for a club that spent over 20 years in the lower divisions.
Things could have been a lot different for the club.
With a disappointing end to the season, there is a concern that they will fail to make it past the Conference League playoff round in August.
A contributing factor to Forest’s downturn of form was a lack of squad rotation.
With no incomings or major outgoings so far this summer, the club will need to start adding reinforcements if they want to compete on multiple fronts in 2025/26.
It looks as though their first attempt to build on their squad has been unsuccessful.
Juventus star rejects Nottingham Forest move
It has been reported that Juventus winger Timothy Weah has rejected a move to the City Ground.
After a €22 million deal was agreed, Weah appears to have rejected a move to Forest.
Instead, he is looking for other opportunities away from the Serie A giants.
Forest meanwhile, will look for alternatives to add to an already exciting attacking group.
