It was not the season any AC Milan fans expected in 2024/25.

After a Champions League semi-final appearance in 2022/23 and a second place Serie A finish in 2023/24, there was hope going into the next campaign.

After the departure of Stefano Pioli to Saudi Arabia, Paulo Fonseca was brought in.

He was sacked four days after Christmas with the club in eight place and replaced by Sérgio Conceição.

The club’s league position did not change.

Their eighth-place finish means that in 2025/26, it will be just Milan’s fifth season of the 21st century without European Football.

Conceição was sacked and replaced by former manager Massimiliano Allegri, who returns after a period of over 10 years away.

He managed 178 games for Milan from June 2010 to January 2014.

During his time as manager of the club, he won a Serie A title and Supercoppa Italia, both in 2011.

Two spells at Juventus followed, with his first of the two being a lot more successful.

There has been a lot asked of Allegri’s poor results of late, and he will want to rebuild his managerial reputation in Milan.

He will hope to bring the good times back to Milan, who have won the Scudetto just once since the aforementioned 2011 season.

AC Milan confirm departure of defender

In January, Milan brought in England right-back Kyle Walker from Manchester City on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Despite only a £4.2 million fee being required to make his move permeant, the Rossoneri have decided not to keep him on.

Walker is believed by many to be the best right-back in Premier League history after a glittering career and fantastic ability on both sides of the ball.

With six Premier League titles, an FA Cup, Champions League and four League Cups, he had quite the career with the blue half of Manchester.

He also became part of history, starting in the City team that won the treble.

However, his decline was evident in the opening six months of the Premier League season.

Along with off the field problems, Walker was enduring the most difficult spell of his career.

Despite being club captain, he was loaned out to Milan.

A change of location did not see an improvement, with Walker’s career now in limbo.

One thing that is clear, is that he will not be playing for Milan next season.
