Tottenham Hotspur are rebuilding under Roberto De Zerbi.
New players are arriving. The squad is taking shape.
And in the process of that rebuilding, some players have found themselves on the outside looking in.
Djed Spence is one of them.
And Inter Milan are ready to offer him the escape route he needs.
Djed Spence set to leave Tottenham as Inter Milan open negotiations for right-back in £34m deal
According to Team Talk, Inter Milan have opened a channel of communication with Tottenham, approaching the north London club to ask about Spence’s availability as new manager Cristian Chivu looks to strengthen the right flank of his defence.
Tottenham value Spence at around £34 million.
That figure is significantly above what Inter had initially budgeted, and represents the primary obstacle in what would otherwise be a straightforward deal.
But the channel between Milan and London has not closed.
And that matters.
Spence himself hasn’t pushed publicly for a transfer.
But the situation is clear, he does not feel central to De Zerbi’s plans, and he would be entirely open to a change of scenery.
Inter Milan know that.
It’s precisely why the approach was made.
The conversation between the two clubs expanded almost immediately after Inter’s initial enquiry.
Tottenham broadened the discussion to include Cristian Romero, whose own desire to leave has become increasingly clear in recent weeks, with the Argentine pushing for a departure and the club under pressure to find a solution.
Romero’s valuation starts at €40 million and rises toward €50 million, a figure that, combined with the Spence price tag, would take any double deal well past the €80 million mark.
Inter cannot afford both simultaneously.
The internal priority is Spence first, with a loan option on Romero being explored as a potential compromise that would allow Tottenham to accommodate the Argentine’s exit without sacrificing the fee entirely.
For Spence, a move to Italy and the Champions League represents everything he’s been seeking since his Tottenham career failed to materialise in the way his early loan seasons had promised.
The door is open.
The negotiations are live.
