Liverpool face a crucial final week of the transfer window as Andoni Iraola continues to reshape his squad.
The Reds opened their Premier League campaign with a dramatic 2-2 draw against Newcastle United. Cody Gakpo scored the first equaliser before Dominik Szoboszlai rescued a point with a late penalty.
Gakpo entered the new season after an impressive World Cup with the Netherlands. He scored three goals and provided one assist in four appearances.
That followed a more challenging 2025–26 Premier League campaign. The 27-year-old recorded seven goals and five assists across 36 matches.
The Reds have undergone major changes since then. Mohamed Salah joined Trabzonspor, while Curtis Jones moved to Inter Milan. Ibrahima Konate also left the club.
Liverpool strengthened the squad with Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz, while Ronald Araujo arrived on loan from Barcelona. However, Iraola still needs more attacking options.
The Reds are pushing to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola. They also remain interested in Brighton star Yankuba Minteh after seeing previous approaches rejected.
Their search for another winger could now have a major impact on Gakpo’s future.
According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur are preparing an improved offer for Gakpo after Liverpool rejected an earlier bid worth around £60 million.
Spurs have also made progress with the player. Nicolo Schira reports that Tottenham have reached an agreement in principle with Gakpo over a contract until 2031.
Liverpool have yet to sanction his departure. The Reds want to secure at least one new winger before allowing Gakpo to leave Anfield.
Their pursuit of Barcola and Minteh could therefore decide what happens next. Gakpo has already shown his importance under Iraola by scoring on the opening weekend.
Losing him without a replacement would further reduce Liverpool’s attacking options following Salah’s departure. Tottenham, however, have refused to abandon their pursuit.
With an improved offer expected and Liverpool chasing attacking reinforcements, the final days of the window could prove decisive for Gakpo’s future.
