Barcelona target could join Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have now taken concrete steps as they attempt to bring the striker to England.

Barcelona opened their 2026–27 La Liga campaign with an emphatic 5–0 victory away against Elche.

Hansi Flick’s side entered the new season after a disrupted pre-season caused by the late-summer World Cup schedule.

Barcelona recorded victories over CE Europa, Nottingham Forest and Basel while also drawing against Birmingham City.

However, their preparations also included a 1–0 defeat against Udinese before competitive football finally resumed.

Barcelona have also remained busy in the transfer market while reshaping Flick’s squad for the new campaign.

Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, Rodri, Joao Cancelo and Dominik Livakovic arrived during an active summer window.

Meanwhile, the Catalan club have continued exploring attacking options as the final days of the market approach.

Barcelona have been monitoring another forward after his outstanding season in Portugal during the previous campaign.

According to L’Equipe, Nottingham Forest have begun the process of signing Barcelona target Luis Suarez from Sporting CP.

The 28-year-old Colombian scored 38 goals across 53 appearances for Sporting during the 2025–26 season.

Suarez also scored 28 league goals while adding another five during Sporting’s Champions League campaign.

However, his strong club form did not continue during Colombia’s run at the 2026 World Cup.

Suarez featured in five matches at the tournament but failed to score before Colombia exited against Switzerland.

He still provided one assist during the competition before returning to uncertainty surrounding his club future.

Barcelona have monitored Suarez as a possible long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski during the current transfer window.

However, Nottingham Forest have now taken concrete steps as they attempt to bring the striker to England.

Newcastle United have also admired Suarez, increasing the competition surrounding his future before the market closes.

Sporting remain in a strong negotiating position because Suarez has a contract with the Portuguese club until 2030.

The Portuguese side could consider a significant late offer despite Suarez carrying an €80 million release clause.

Therefore, Nottingham Forest could now move ahead of Barcelona if they can reach an agreement with Sporting.
