Nottingham Forest have endured a difficult start to the new season under manager Oliver Glasner.
Their preseason campaign produced victories over Notts County, Blackburn, Bayer Leverkusen and Brest, alongside several defeats.
Forest lost heavily against Sporting CP before suffering further setbacks against Udinese and Barcelona.
However, their competitive campaign started poorly, with Leeds United beating them twice in quick succession.
Forest first suffered a 1-0 Premier League defeat before Leeds knocked them out of the EFL Cup 2-0.
Meanwhile, the club have also overseen a significant squad overhaul during the summer transfer window.
Elliot Anderson left for Manchester City, while Taiwo Awoniyi completed a move to Coventry City.
Forest responded by signing Ousmane Diomande for £34.3 million, alongside Xaver Schlager and goalkeeper Steven Benda.
They have also agreed a club-record £50 million deal for Chelsea striker Liam Delap.
However, Glasner still wants another option at right wing-back before the transfer deadline.
According to The Athletic, Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks with Celta Vigo to sign former Real Madrid academy player Javi Rueda.
The 24-year-old has now emerged as Forest’s main target for the right wing-back position.
Forest are still working to agree personal terms with Rueda and a transfer package with Celta Vigo.
Rueda established himself in Celta’s first team last season after developing through Real Madrid’s academy.
He made 27 La Liga appearances, scoring twice, while also impressing during Celta’s Europa League campaign.
Rueda scored in both legs of their last-16 victory over Lyon, further strengthening his reputation.
Real Madrid retained a 50% sell-on clause when Rueda moved to Celta Vigo in 2023.
Therefore, any deal could hand the Spanish giants a significant share of the transfer fee.
Forest have also pursued several other right wing-back targets this summer without completing a deal.
They missed out on Anan Khalaili, while Givairo Read remained at Feyenoord.
However, Rueda has now moved to the top of Forest’s list as Glasner searches for another wing-back option.
