Lamine Camara picks his next club between Chelsea and Liverpool

Chelsea’s relationship with Monaco has deteriorated following the failed summer deal.

Lamine Camara has remained an important player for Monaco after his proposed summer transfer to Chelsea collapsed on deadline day.

The Senegal midfielder started 22 of 24 available Ligue 1 matches during the 2025/26 campaign and remains under contract until June 2029.

Camara has also started Monaco’s opening four matches this season, including victories against Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea attempted to sign the 22-year-old during the closing stages of the summer window as they searched for Enzo Fernandez’s replacement.

The Blues reached a £47M agreement with Monaco, while Camara completed a medical and agreed personal terms on a six-year contract.

However, Monaco withdrew from the transfer during the final hours of deadline day. Liverpool have since emerged as the club to watch if Camara eventually secures his desired Premier League move.

According to Ben Jacobs, Liverpool senior figures made several calls to Camara, including on deadline day, to underline their interest in a potential 2027 transfer.

Jacobs indicates that Liverpool are now better positioned than Chelsea in the race for the Monaco midfielder.

Chelsea’s relationship with Monaco has deteriorated following the failed summer deal, while Liverpool are planning to strengthen their midfield next year.

Camara still wants to move to the Premier League, and Monaco have not ruled out a January departure for him.

However, Liverpool had not planned another midfield signing this summer unless Alexis Mac Allister departed following Curtis Jones’ move to Inter.

Chelsea could yet reconsider their position if Monaco make Camara available again. However, Liverpool seem ahead of Chelsea in the competition for Camara. Now, they are considering a potential move in 2027.
