Jose Mourinho is one of the most decorated managers in the history of football.
The Portuguese coach has won major honours across several countries during a managerial career spanning more than two decades.
Chelsea supporters will forever remember him as the man who transformed the club into Premier League champions, winning back-to-back titles during his first spell at Stamford Bridge.
Now back at Real Madrid, the Special One is attempting to bring major silverware back to the Bernabeu during his second spell in the Spanish capital.
But it’s not just Real Madrid and Chelsea where Mourinho established himself as a legendary figure.
Some of his greatest achievements came during two remarkable seasons with Inter Milan.
The pinnacle arrived in 2009/10 when Mourinho guided the Nerazzurri to an historic treble, winning Serie A, the Coppa Italia and UEFA Champions League.
Along the way, Inter famously eliminated Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals before beating Bayern Munich at the Bernabeu to lift the trophy.
Mourinho left for Real Madrid immediately afterwards, bringing an extraordinary two-year spell in Italy to an end.
More than 16 years later, however, one of the records he established during that period has now been broken and fittingly, it’s been taken from him by one of his former Inter players.
Sky Sports Italia report that Cristian Chivu has become the fastest manager in Inter Milan history to accumulate 100 Serie A points with the club.
Chivu achieved the feat after Inter fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 away at Roma on Saturday, with Lautaro Martinez scoring twice in the second half to rescue a point.
That point took Chivu to exactly 100 in Serie A as Inter manager – a landmark he has reached after just 43 league matches.
The previous record belonged to Mourinho, who needed 45 games to reach the same total during his time in charge at the San Siro.
Antonio Conte reached the landmark in 47 matches, Simone Inzaghi required 48 and Roberto Mancini did it in 52, putting Chivu ahead of some of the most successful Inter managers of the modern era.
There’s also a fitting connection between the new record holder and the man he’s overtaken.
Chivu was part of Mourinho’s Inter squad and played in the Champions League final victory over Bayern Munich that completed the club’s historic treble in 2010.
Sixteen years later, the Romanian is now creating his own history from the Inter dugout.
Chivu took charge at the beginning of last season and immediately delivered the Serie A title, with Inter collecting 87 points from his first 38 league matches. They’ve added another 13 from their opening five games this season to take him to the century mark.
The Inter boss wasn’t particularly interested in celebrating the individual milestone, however, describing it simply as numbers before turning his attention back to the team’s performances.
His ambitions will inevitably extend far beyond reaching 100 points quicker than his former manager.
Mourinho’s 2009/10 side remains the benchmark at Inter after becoming the first Italian club to complete the treble, but Chivu has already delivered a league title and now has a small piece of club history that even the Special One couldn’t match.
