Real Madrid significantly strengthened their defence during the summer as Jose Mourinho reshaped his squad following two trophy-less seasons.
Marc Cucurella and Denzel Dumfries arrived from Chelsea and Inter Milan, while Ibrahima Konate joined after leaving Liverpool.
Madrid spent heavily across their squad, but further defensive changes could still arrive during the summer transfer window in 2027.
The Spanish giants are expected to require at least two new defenders and have already started assessing possible targets.
Their search has taken them to the Bundesliga, where one young defender has impressed since leaving Liverpool for Bayer Leverkusen.
According to SPORT BILD, Real Madrid are showing significant interest in former Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah and are scouting him closely.
The 23-year-old joined Bayer Leverkusen from Liverpool for €35 million after winning the 2025 European Under-21 Championship with England.
Quansah has since developed into a regular Bundesliga starter and also earned his senior international breakthrough while playing for Leverkusen.
The England international offers considerable versatility because he can operate at both centre-back and right-back when required.
His tackling ability, pace and build-up play have also contributed to growing interest from several major European clubs.
However, Liverpool could potentially bring their former academy defender back to Anfield through an option included in his move.
The Reds can exercise that option until June 15, 2027, but would need to pay Leverkusen €70 million.
Chelsea have also made an enquiry about Quansah, potentially reuniting him with former Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso at Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, Arsenal attempted to sign the defender during August, but Leverkusen rejected their €65 million offer.
Quansah remains under contract with Leverkusen until 2030, strengthening the German club’s position amid increasing interest in his services.
Real Madrid are nevertheless watching his development closely as they consider another defensive overhaul ahead of next summer.
The defender also has a close relationship with Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham through their involvement together with the England national team.
