Chelsea set to pursue midfielder they failed to sign on deadline day

Chelsea face increased competition if they decide to reopen negotiations.

Chelsea could return to the transfer market after their attempts to strengthen midfield ended unsuccessfully on deadline day.

The Blues sold Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City for £125 million before turning their attention towards a late replacement.

Chelsea reached an agreement worth £47 million with Monaco for their preferred target, who also completed his medical.

However, Monaco eventually withdrew from the proposed transfer, leaving Xabi Alonso without the additional midfielder he wanted.

The situation has remained under consideration at Stamford Bridge, with January now providing another opportunity to revisit the deal.

According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea remain eager to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara and could revive their pursuit in January.

The Blues have watched every minute Camara has played since his proposed summer transfer collapsed.

His performances since returning to Monaco have strengthened Chelsea’s interest rather than reducing their desire to complete the signing.

The TEAMtalk report states that relations between the clubs have not broken down completely, meaning a January agreement remains possible.

Camara is also keen on a January move after missing out on his proposed switch to Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea face increased competition if they decide to reopen negotiations with Monaco.

Liverpool have monitored the 22-year-old, while Crystal Palace, Brighton and Newcastle United are also tracking his situation.

Crystal Palace previously had an offer rejected, while Liverpool have maintained a long-standing interest in the Senegal international.

Monaco originally agreed to sell Camara to Chelsea for £47 million before cancelling the transfer.

A January agreement could now require a higher fee, with Liverpool prepared to pay closer to £60 million.

Chelsea are nevertheless continuing to assess Camara closely as they prepare their plans for the winter transfer window.

Their deadline-day disappointment has therefore not ended the pursuit, with the midfielder remaining firmly on Chelsea’s radar.
