Tottenham Hotspur could strengthen Roberto De Zerbi’s squad again after their difficult start to the 2026/27 season.
Spurs spent more than £300 million during a major summer rebuild. Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Savio were among their expensive additions.
De Zerbi also strengthened his defence with Jan Paul van Hecke, Tosin Adarabioyo and Andy Robertson.
However, those changes have yet to deliver results. Tottenham sit bottom of the Premier League after collecting two points from five matches.
Their attacking struggles have been particularly concerning, with Spurs scoring only twice in the league. Tottenham could therefore return to the market when the January transfer window opens.
According to TEAMtalk, De Zerbi is interested in reuniting with Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Italian previously managed Mitoma at Brighton and could now bring the Japan international to North London.
Mitoma’s contract situation could provide Tottenham with an opportunity. The 29-year-old entered the final season of his Brighton deal, which expires on June 30, 2027.
Brighton have held discussions about an extension. However, those talks have stalled, while Mitoma appears reluctant to commit to another deal.
TEAMtalk reports that several Champions League clubs contacted his representatives during the summer.
Liverpool are also monitoring developments after tracking Mitoma before his move from Kawasaki Frontale.
Tottenham could potentially pursue a cut-price January transfer rather than wait until next summer. However, Mitoma’s fitness could affect those plans. The winger suffered a hamstring injury in May.
It ended his 2025/26 campaign and ruled him out of the World Cup. Mitoma remains on a cautious recovery programme under Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler.
That situation could reduce interest during January and increase the possibility of a free transfer next summer.
