Son Heung-min breaks international record

The achievement further strengthens Son’s status among the greatest players in his country’s football history.

Son Heung-min has reached another landmark in a remarkable career spanning the Premier League, Major League Soccer and international football.

The South Korean icon ended his decade-long Tottenham Hotspur career in 2025 after finally lifting a major trophy with the club.

Son captained Tottenham to UEFA Europa League glory during his final full season before completing a £20 million move to Los Angeles FC.

His Tottenham spell ended with 169 goals from 431 appearances, placing him fourth among the club’s all-time leading scorers.

Son also won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2021/22 and formed a record-breaking partnership with Harry Kane.

Life in the United States has brought another successful chapter. Son scored 12 goals in 13 appearances during the closing stages of the 2025 MLS season.

He has followed that with six goals and 10 assists from 25 league appearances this season, while also scoring twice in the 2026 MLS All-Star Game.

However, his latest achievement has arrived while representing his country.

The Korea Football Association has confirmed that Son scored his 59th international goal to become the South Korea men’s national team’s all-time leading goalscorer.

The landmark strike takes Son beyond a record that had remained unsurpassed for decades. His international scoring journey began with his first South Korea goal in 2011.

Since then, Son has developed into the defining figure of his country’s modern era. He has already represented South Korea across multiple FIFA World Cups and AFC Asian Cups.

He has also accumulated 153 international appearances, making him South Korea’s most-capped player.

The achievement further strengthens Son’s status among the greatest players in his country’s football history.

Son had already established himself as a Tottenham legend before continuing his career with LAFC. He has now added South Korea’s ultimate goalscoring record to his list of accomplishments.

At 59 international goals, the longtime captain now stands alone as the most prolific scorer in the history of the South Korea men’s national team.
