Manchester City have started the 2026/27 season strongly under Enzo Maresca. They have won their opening five Premier League matches.
Their domestic form has continued despite considerable uncertainty away from the pitch.
An independent commission recently found Manchester City guilty of 114 of 115 financial charges brought by the Premier League.
The findings covered a nine-season period between 2009 and 2018. City have strongly rejected the verdict and launched an appeal.
The club maintain their innocence and believe the ruling contains significant errors. While that legal battle continues, movement within City’s academy has also taken place.
Cardiff City have officially announced the signing of 17-year-old midfielder Charlie Holt from Manchester City. Holt developed through City’s age groups before deciding to continue his career in the Welsh capital.
Cardiff described their new arrival as an energetic midfielder who can influence play at both ends of the pitch. The youngster will initially link up with the Bluebirds’ Under-21 squad.
He is already eligible to represent the development side and will continue his progression within Cardiff’s academy structure. Holt also outlined his qualities after completing the move. He said:
“I’m very pleased to be here. It’s a great opportunity and a different challenge for me.”
He described himself as an energetic player with technical ability and hopes to contribute goals during his time at Cardiff.
The midfielder also highlighted the pathway available to young players as an important attraction behind his move.
Cardiff have not disclosed the financial details or contractual terms surrounding Holt’s arrival. The transfer brings an end to his development within Manchester City’s academy system.
So, Holt will now begin the next stage of his career with Cardiff’s Under-21 side as he attempts to progress towards senior football.
