Pep Guardiola plans to return to Etihad Stadium after Manchester City vedict

Guardiola’s association with the club stretches back to his appointment in 2016.

Pep Guardiola ended an extraordinary decade at Manchester City following the conclusion of last season.

The Spaniard managed 593 matches and won 20 major trophies during his 10-year spell. That collection included six Premier League titles and City’s first Champions League triumph.

His departure closed one of the most successful managerial eras in English football. However, Guardiola has remained publicly supportive of his former club during a turbulent period.

Manchester City were recently found guilty of serious financial breaches by an independent Premier League commission. The club strongly rejected the findings and subsequently launched an appeal against the verdict.

Guardiola is now preparing to return to City’s home for the first time since leaving.

According to The Times, Guardiola plans to attend Manchester City’s Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain on October 14. The fixture will take place at the Etihad Stadium.

It would represent Guardiola’s first visit to City’s stadium since ending his managerial tenure in May. The timing also gives his planned appearance additional significance.

Guardiola publicly backed Manchester City following the commission’s verdict. His planned attendance against PSG will come while the club continue their legal challenge.

City have argued that the commission’s findings are unsafe and contain material errors. Their appeal means the disciplinary process remains unresolved.

Guardiola’s association with the club stretches back to his appointment in 2016. He delivered City’s historic treble during the 2022–23 campaign.

Guardiola also oversaw four consecutive Premier League triumphs between 2021 and 2024. His planned return will therefore reunite one of City’s most successful managers with the Etihad crowd.
