Tottenham Hotspur are fully backing their new manager Thomas Frank this summer.

After sorting out the attack of the Spurs with the addition of Mohamed Kudus, Frank now wants to improve his defence.

Frank wants to be ready in case Cristian Romero leaves this summer.

The Argentine has been linked with Atletico Madrid, and if he goes, Spurs will need a reliable backup.

A young defender with high potential is already on their list, Giovanni Leoni.

The 18-year-old Italian centre-back has had a breakthrough year at Parma.

However, Tottenham have to be in a transfer battle with another Premier League club to get this deal over the line.

Yes, Newcastle United are also keen to bring him in. Eddie Howe is planning to strengthen his defence, and Leoni is a part of that strategy.

Newcastle want to be competitive in the Champions League this year.

They are also setting their sights at finishing in the top 4 of the Premier League table.

According to CaughtOffside, both English clubs are expected to make an offer soon.

In Italy, the competition is even tougher. Juventus, Inter Milan, Napoli, AC Milan, and Bologna have all scouted him. Marseille are tracking him from France too.

Parma have made their stance clear. They will not listen to bids below €30m to €40m. They believe Leoni is worth every bit of that fee.

For Spurs, the situation is simple. If Romero stays, Leoni could still add depth. If Romero leaves, the need becomes urgent.

For Newcastle, injuries have been a problem for them in the last season.

So, if Leoni is there, they don’t have to play Dan Burn as the centre-back even though the English international played amazingly in that position.

Leoni has the potential to grow into a top defender. So, this Giovanni Leoni transfer battle between some of the top European clubs will be interesting to follow.
