It has been a busy summer for Sunderland.

The club continue to add to their depth after a dramatic EFL Championship playoff final win over Sheffield United at Wembley Stadium last season.

Sunderland have already added plenty of players this summer, including Simon Adingra, Habib Diarra and Granit Xhaka to name a few.

La Liga defender Omar Alderete has also been strongly linked with a move to the Stadium of Light.

Before the start of the playoffs, Sunderland last won a competitive game on April 5th.

A draw was followed up by five straight defeats, leading to many believing they would not advance past Coventry City in the playoff semi final and certainly when they went a goal down in the final.

Sunderland will need to improve on a poor end to the league campaign, that has been masked over by a miraculous playoff run.

They have today announced their latest signing, one who they hope will improve things for the club defensively.

On the club’s official social media, they announced the official signing of former West Ham United full-back Arthur Masuaku.

Masuaku had a successful spell with the Hammers, making 128 appearances for the club from 2016 to 2023.

One of his highlights at the club came when he scored the winner against Chelsea in the 2021/22 season, which was his only Premier League goal for the club.

A 2022 loan move to Turkish side Beşiktaş was made permanent a year later, but the DR Congo international is now back in the Premier League.
