Liverpool and Marc Guehi were both left disappointed at the end of the transfer window.
On the deadline day, the Premier League champions were close to signing the Crystal Palace defender.
The only thing that was preventing this deal was Palace signing an alternative. The London side were close to signing Igor Julio from Brighton.
It seemed that once that deal gets over the line, Palace will let Guehi sign for Liverpool. Even the Reds agreed on a fee with the Eagles after agreeing on personal terms with Guehi.
The English defender even completed his medical, and the only thing that was left was the contract signing. However, West Ham United hijacked the Igor Julio deal.
As a result, Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner was not ready to let Marc Guehi leave. According to several reports, the Austrian even threatened to quit his job if Guehi left.
Thus, Guehi was left stranded in a hotel room waiting for the green light to sign his Liverpool contract. That call never came from Crystal Palace, and he will now play for them this season.
Understandably, Marc Guehi was left frustrated about the way his dream move to Liverpool collapsed in front of his eyes. His contract with Crystal Palace will end next year.
After that, he can easily sign for Liverpool as a free agent. However, the Reds will have competition for Marc Guehi from a European giant.
According to Football Insider, Bayern Munich are looking to sign Marc Guehi. The Bavarians are eyeing a move for the defender next summer.
However, Liverpool might move early for Guehi in January and look to get the deal done or sign a pre-contract with the England international.
With Bayern Munich entering the fray, the task of signing Marc Guehi is expected to become a bit more difficult for Liverpool next summer.
