The defending Premier League champions Arsenal have made an impressive start to the 2026–27 season under Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners have recorded important Premier League victories over Coventry City, Leeds United and Chelsea. Their strong form has moved them level on points at the top.
Arsenal have also carried that momentum into the Champions League. Arteta’s side defeated Napoli 1-0 away before securing a convincing 3-0 victory over Lille.
However, injuries have created another challenge during a demanding period of the campaign.
Piero Hincapie and Martin Zubimendi both suffered ankle problems during a training session following the 2-1 victory over Leeds.
Zubimendi has progressed quickly, but Hincapie faces a longer spell on the sidelines. Arteta initially suggested the Ecuadorian defender would miss several weeks.
His recovery is progressing well, although he could remain unavailable for another week or two. That situation has encouraged Arsenal to consider another defensive addition in January.
According to Bayern Munich insider Christian Falk, Kim Min-jae is officially on Arsenal’s transfer list following Hincapie’s injury.
Arsenal scouting chief Maurizio Micheli already knows the South Korean defender well. Micheli identified Kim during his previous spell with Napoli.
The connection has helped place the 29-year-old on Arsenal’s radar as they assess potential winter defensive signings.
Kim joined Bayern Munich from Napoli in 2023 and has since made 122 appearances for the German club.
Bayern are not actively attempting to sell the centre-back. However, they could consider a departure if they receive an acceptable offer.
Arsenal would also face competition if they decide to pursue a deal. Aston Villa, AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interest in Kim.
Arteta already has several established central defensive options available. Gabriel Magalhaes and Ezri Konsa remain part of the squad, while William Saliba has yet to feature this season because of injury.
Hincapie’s latest setback has nevertheless increased Arsenal’s interest in strengthening their defensive depth. Kim has now emerged as a potential January solution if Arsenal decide another centre-back is required.
