Arsenal have started their Premier League title defence strongly after another significant summer at the Emirates Stadium.
Mikel Arteta’s side have collected 18 points from their opening seven league matches. Six victories have left them second behind Manchester City.
Their Champions League campaign has also started positively. Arsenal remain unbeaten after three European matches, including a 2-2 draw away at Bayern Munich.
Andrea Berta strengthened Arteta’s squad considerably during the summer window. Bruno Guimaraes arrived from Newcastle United for £75M, while Ezri Konsa joined from Aston Villa for £51M.
Arsenal also signed Christos Tzolis and made Piero Hincapie’s move permanent. However, their search for further attacking quality appears to be continuing.
According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal have made initial contact over Eintracht Frankfurt forward Can Uzun. The 20-year-old has impressed in the Bundesliga and can operate across attacking positions.
Arsenal approached Uzun’s agency, 11WINS, while also exploring a potential move for another client, Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi.
Uzun could have been available for around €40 million during the summer. However, his strong start to the new season has increased his potential transfer value considerably.
Eintracht Frankfurt could now demand his full €60 million release clause. His existing contract runs until 2029, leaving the German club in a strong negotiating position.
Arsenal currently have reservations about paying that figure for a relatively inexperienced player. Aston Villa, Brighton and Everton have also monitored Uzun.
Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Napoli have previously shown interest as well. The forward is not currently pushing to leave Eintracht Frankfurt.
Arsenal could therefore choose to monitor his development before making a stronger move. Waiting could also strengthen their negotiating position as Uzun moves closer to the end of his contract.
For now, Arsenal’s initial contact shows their interest as Arteta and Berta continue assessing options to strengthen the Premier League champions’ attack.
