It has been a dramatic few weeks for Liverpool.
Despite not being at their best, they have won all of their opening three Premier League games.
And as we know, they have been incredibly busy in the transfer market, bringing in several new players.
However, it has been some of their existing players that have started the season well.
Dominik Szoboszlai scored a stunning free-kick to win them the game against title rivals Arsenal.
Whilst Virgil van Dijk has been a colossus at the back, as per usual.
One other player that has started the season well has been Cody Gakpo.
With all the incomings, the Dutchman is one of the players that fans have expected to fall down the pecking order.
That may eventually be the case, especially with Alexander Isak now signed, but for now he is playing an important part.
The 26-year old scored against AFC Bournemouth on the opening day, and provided two assists vs Newcastle.
To further prove that he remains part of the furniture on Merseyside, he has signed a new contract until 2030.
When speaking about his new deal to ESPN Netherlands, Gakpo admitted that Bayern showed an interest during the summer.
“From what I understand, they have come in [during the summer], but in the end they have signed Luis Diaz.”
Although there is no doubt Gakpo is a very good player, Diaz is definitely a better fit in the Bayern side.
With Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Serge Gnabry, Vincent Kompany’s side need a dynamic player to complement them.
Undoubtedly, Diaz offers more speed in behind and 1v1 ability than Gakpo, with the Dutchman perhaps more reliable with his end product.
But with Kane and Olise, end product is no issue. So a player with the profile of Diaz is more useful than one of Gakpo’s.
