Tottenham Hotspur were eyeing a move for Conor Gallagher during the summer. But the club chose to strengthen other areas of the squad and did not submit a formal bid.
Now, with the January window approaching, Gallagher’s name is back on the radar.
According to Football Insider, Spurs could make a move for the England international in January.
However, any deal will require a significant offer. Atletico Madrid are reluctant to let the midfielder leave mid-season.
Gallagher has made three La Liga appearances for Atletico this season. However, he has only started once. Manager Thomas Frank is believed to be a fan of the 25-year-old.
Since joining Atletico from Chelsea in 2024, Gallagher has scored four goals and provided six assists across 53 appearances.
The Spanish side paid £33 million for his services and would reportedly demand around £50 million to consider a sale.
Manchester United are also monitoring the situation along with Crystal Palace. But with Spurs needing to strengthen in midfield, they may enter the race.
Tottenham signed Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich this summer.
But with James Maddison out long-term and Yves Bissouma no longer in the club’s plans, a new central midfielder will be a priority in January.
Atletico Madrid are in the Champions League this season and could reach the knockout rounds.
As a result, Diego Simeone is aiming to keep his squad intact. This will make a January transfer for Gallagher unlikely unless a major offer arrives.
The midfielder’s contract runs until 2029, meaning Atletico are under no pressure to sell.
However, with Daniel Levy no longer in charge, Tottenham may back Frank more aggressively in the winter market.
Whether that includes a formal bid for Gallagher remains to be seen. But Spurs are keeping close watch on the player’s situation ahead of January.
