Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has criticised Marcus Rashford’s attitude during his final season at the club, accusing the winger of “quitting” on his teammates and fans.

Rashford left Old Trafford in the summer and is currently on loan at Barcelona, where he recently scored twice in a Champions League win over Newcastle United.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Scholes acknowledged Rashford’s quality but questioned his mentality during the final stretch of his Manchester United career.

Scholes said.

“There’s no doubt the talent that kid has got, it’s ridiculous. He’s shown up in a big game, and that second goal was brilliant.

I really struggled to feel happy for him… mainly because of his attitude at United.”

Paul Scholes further went on to say:

“The time he was leaving, I thought it was just a disgrace at United, not trying, basically. Look, if you fell out with a manager, then okay, but remember, you’ve got teammates you’re playing with. You’ve got a massive 80,000 there every single week that you have to put a bit of effort in.

The amount of times I saw him at United walking because he wants to leave, I thought his whole demeanour was a disgrace. I think he actually quit on Manchester United. And once you quit once, you’ll quit again.”

Rashford’s exit came after a long spell of inconsistency at the club. His time at United saw major managerial changes and disappointing results.

Despite his drop in form, the England international remained one of United’s top scorers in recent seasons.

His loan to Barcelona includes an option to buy. And the Spanish club are expected to evaluate a permanent move next summer.

If Barcelona completes the permanent move, Rashford would end his time at Manchester United. He will finish his United career with 138 goals and 78 assists in 426 appearances for the club.
