Tottenham Hotspur had a steady summer window. But the real work could begin at the end of the season.
The north London club signed a few key players. One of them came in on loan from Bayern Munich.
According to GIVEMESPORT, Joao Palhinha wants to remain at Tottenham after his loan deal ends. Spurs also have the option to sign him permanently for £27 million.
So far, the move has worked well for both sides. And now, the talks between the two clubs could begin soon.
Joao Palhinha moved to Bayern Munich in 2024. They paid £43.1 million to sign him from Fulham. The German club had chased him the year before too.
But the deal only happened a year later. However, things didn’t go as planned for both Palhinha and Bayern.
The Portuguese made 17 league appearances. But he started just five of those. Vincent Kompany preferred Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlovic in midfield. Also, injuries played a key part in it.
But that wasn’t the main reason. Kompany was not convinced by Palhinha’s passing or creativity. He wanted more from that role. The fans weren’t impressed either.
Apart from that, in a Bundesliga poll, 216 players voted Palhinha as the league’s most disappointing player.
That was when Bayern decided sent him to Spurs on loan. Their message was clear. The Portuguese does not suit Bayern Munich anymore.
Palhinha needed the right system. Under Thomas Frank, he may have found it. The midfielder has slotted in perfectly. He plays with control and discipline.
One of his best games came against Manchester City. He controlled the midfield and helped Spurs dominate the game at the Etihad.
Frank doesn’t need him in every game. But against stronger teams, Palhinha could be the key for the former Brentford boss.
At 30, he could still offer a lot to Tottenham Hotspur. Spending £27 million on him next summer would be a smart move. Also, Palhinha wants it too.
