The atmosphere around the City Ground has turned tense again. The new manager of Nottingham Forest, Sean Dyche, has barely settled in.
Yet, question marks are already there over his future after another disappointing result in the Premier League.
The club began the season in chaos. Nottingham Forest started their season under Nuno Espirito Santo, who brought them back to Europe.
But the relationship between the Portuguese manager and the Greek owner of the club, Evangelos Marinakis, broke down completely.
Thus, the sack was inevitable, and Marinakis hired Ange Postecoglou as Nuno’s replacement. Postecoglou won the Europa League with Tottenham Hotspur last season.
So, after returning to Europe, Postecoglou gave hope to Nottingham Forest fans. But after a string of poor performances under Ange Postecoglou, they turned to Sean Dyche.
The former Burnley and Everton boss brought a spark of hope, and a 2-0 win over Porto in the Europa League seemed to signal the start of a turnaround.
But that optimism has faded fast. Forest’s recent 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth has left them in the relegation zone.
They remain 18th in the table, three points behind Fulham, while rivals Burnley and Leeds have widened their advantage to five and six points respectively.
The board’s patience is already being tested. Also, Football Insider claims that Forest’s hierarchy is keeping a close eye on Marco Silva’s situation at Fulham.
Silva had been on the shortlist before Dyche’s appointment, and Marinakis can also act quickly when results go wrong.
If Dyche cannot improve performances soon, Nottingham Forest may consider making a shock move for Silva.
Reports add that Fulham are determined to keep their manager. However, Silva wants the board to show more ambition in the transfer market before he agrees to a new contract.
That uncertainty could open the door for Nottingham Forest if their poor form continues. For now, Dyche remains in charge and will get more time to turn things around.
