Tension gripped Glasgow hours before the Scottish League Cup semi-final as disturbing footage surfaced from the city’s Govanhill area.
The video captured chaos on Victoria Road, where Rangers’ ultra group, the Union Bears, were seen marching in large numbers ahead of the clash at Hampden Park.
The scene began as the group moved down the busy street, singing loudly and waving flags. Among the crowd, one man stood in the middle of the road, facing the oncoming supporters.
He raised his arm, appearing to gesture toward the approaching group. Moments later, a Rangers supporter stepped forward and struck him with a single punch, knocking him to the ground instantly.
The victim fell motionless as his hat rolled across the street. While the man lay still on the road, members of the Union Bears continued walking past him without stopping.
It remains unclear whether he required medical attention following the attack. Witnesses watching from nearby buildings described the moment as terrifying.
One local woman posted on social media that masked men, dressed in black, were marching down Victoria Road and that a few had broken off to chase a man who had angered them.
She described the entire scene as frightening, especially given that an Old Firm game was scheduled for later that day.
The incident occurred before Rangers took on Celtic in what turned out to be a heated semi-final at Hampden.
The match itself ended in disappointment for the Ibrox side, who fell 3–1 to their rivals after extra time.
Celtic took the early lead through Johnny Kenny before Rangers were down to ten men when Thelo Aasgaard got a red card.
Captain James Tavernier equalised late from the penalty spot to take the game into extra time.
However, Celtic regained control as Callum McGregor struck from distance, and young Callum Osmand sealed the victory soon after.
The result sent Martin O’Neill’s Celtic side through to face St Mirren in the final on December 14.
Meanwhile, Police Scotland have confirmed they are aware of the incident in Govanhill and are investigating the footage.
There’s a group of masked white men, dressed in black marching down victoria road in Glasgow, singing Rule Britannia. A few of them have just peeled off to chase a man who’s displeased them in some way. Frankly it’s terrifying. And of course there’s an old firm game atHampden pic.twitter.com/FrkB7tnK1l
