Alex Iwobi has left football fans in disbelief after sharing a short video from the Nigeria national team’s hotel in Morocco.
The Fulham midfielder joined up with his international teammates after featuring in his club’s 2-0 defeat to Everton on Saturday.
However, what should have been a routine arrival turned into a viral moment.
The Super Eagles have set up camp in Rabat ahead of their World Cup qualifying play-off against Gabon.
But Iwobi appeared far from impressed with the accommodation provided by the Nigerian Football Federation.
Furthermore, the 29-year-old posted a nine-second clip on social media that quickly caught everyone’s attention.
The video began with Iwobi raising his eyebrows before panning his camera to the window revealing a view of a rundown apartment block at the back of the hotel.
He then turned the camera back to his face, looking bewildered, before giving fans a silent but telling side-eye. The midfielder didn’t need to say a word; his expression summed up his feelings entirely.
Fans immediately flooded the comments, expressing both amusement and frustration.
Many were shocked that a player of Iwobi’s stature, with nearly a decade in the Premier League, was staying in such poor conditions while on international duty.
Moreover, the reaction brought back memories of long-standing issues surrounding Nigeria’s football setup.
Iwobi, who has scored 10 goals in 89 international appearances, is one of Nigeria’s most experienced players.
Yet his latest post highlights that, despite all the progress on the pitch, the off-field struggles remain.
Thus, while Nigeria prepare for a vital clash with Gabon, Iwobi’s viral video has once again drawn global attention to an old and persistent problem.
