Arsenal are by far the favourites to win the Premier League this season. Even Opta’s supercomputer believes the Gunners will lift the title this season.
There is no doubt that Arsenal had the best summer transfer window. After bringing in Andrea Berta, the former Atletico Madrid sporting director did a stunning job.
As a result, the Gunners are leading the Premier League table by four points. And, if there is no blip like the past few seasons, Arsenal should be lifting the title.
Now, a former Arsenal star was approached by his former club to return to the club. However, the ex-Gunner rejected the offer.
Ajax wanted to re-sign Marc Overmars as their Sporting Director. However, Overmars has rejected the offer. While speaking to De Telegraaf, the current Royal Atwarp Sporting Director said:
“That’s happened once before, and now again, and by several people. By whom? Yes, they’re people in important positions, but I’m not going to say who, because then it would just become another political game internally. For me, it’s over.”
Ajax sacked Overmars in 2022 following allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards a female colleague.
The incident caused outrage across Dutch football and ended his successful tenure in Amsterdam, where he had built one of Europe’s most admired recruitment systems.
Soon after his dismissal, Antwerp moved swiftly to appoint him as their sporting chief. And Overmars is still with the same club.
Since the departures of both Erik Ten Hag and Marc Overmars, the club has endured one of its most turbulent periods in recent history.
The Dutch giants currently trail both PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord in the Eredivisie and sit bottom of their Champions League group after a disappointing campaign.
Moreover, pressure is also mounting on Overmars as Royal Atwarp continues to struggle domestically.
