Cristiano Ronaldo is in great form for both club and country. The Portuguese legend has scored 11 goals in 12 appearances for Al-Nassr during the 2025-26 season.
Ronaldo has scored 42 goals across all competitions for club and country in the 2024 calendar year.
For Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 8 goals in 9 appearances during the 2025 calendar year.
Now, due to an ugly incident on the pitch, Ronaldo was facing a ban, which could have affected his participation in the World Cup.
However, FIFA could soon deal with legal trouble after clearing Cristiano Ronaldo to play at the World Cup. The decision shocked several nations that expect to face Portugal next summer.
Ronaldo still had two games left on a three-match suspension after he elbowed Dara O’Shea during a qualifier in Dublin. Normally, he would miss the first two matches of the tournament.
FIFA reviewed the case and allowed him to skip only Portugal’s final qualifier against Armenia.
The governing body said his good behaviour record and his first international red card influenced the ruling. Ronaldo, now 40, can prepare for the last World Cup of his career without restriction.
According to the Daily Mail, teams drawn into Portugal’s group next Friday may take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
They want the original ban restored so they do not face Portugal with their all-time top scorer.
Lawyers believe they might have a case if they can prove their chances drop with Ronaldo on the pitch.
The controversy intensified after Ronaldo visited Donald Trump at the White House days before the ruling.
FIFA’s disciplinary code normally demands a minimum three-match ban for violent conduct, but Article 27 allows committees to reduce or suspend sanctions.
So, it will be interesting to follow this story, as one of the greatest to play this game aims to claim the biggest achievement for a footballer on earth for one last time.
