Fans around the world were waiting in anticipation to find out the ticket prices for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The USA, Mexico, and Canada will host the tournament next year.
However, when the prices came out, fans couldn’t believe the amount they had to pay to watch the World Cup.
As a result, fans started criticising FIFA for the atrocious pricing of the tickets for the much-anticipated tournament.
Now, FIFA have recently announced the introduction of a limited number of cheaper tickets for the 2026 World Cup.
As per The Telegraph, they had to do this mounting criticism over the tournament’s pricing structure.
World football’s governing body confirmed that $60 (£45) tickets will now be available for all 104 matches across the competition, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The new price point will apply to a select allocation reserved for supporters of nations that qualify for the tournament.
Under the revised structure, the £45 tickets will fall under the “supporter entry tier” and will account for 10 per cent of each national association’s allocation.
For countries such as England and Scotland, that is expected to mean around 400 tickets per group-stage match at the lowest price.
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer welcomed the move but urged further action, saying (via the BBC):
“As someone who used to save up for England tickets, I encourage FIFA to do more to make tickets more affordable so that the World Cup does not lose touch with the genuine supporters who make the game so special.”
However, many supporters are still criticising this move. Football Supporters’ Association chair Tom Greatrex described the announcement as “a hollow gesture”. He added:
“What sounds like a climbdown is a cynical attempt to deflect attention while continuing to rip fans off.”
FIFA insisted that each participating member association would manage the allocation process.
🚨 FIFA has dramatically reduced the price of certain World Cup tickets for the most loyal supporters after a global backlash — with some fans now able to attend the final for just $60, instead of the original $4,185 price tag. 💰
