The United States of America are preparing to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup. After 32 years, the US will host this global event. Last time in 1994, Brazil won the tournament.

However, the US President Donald Trump has signed a new proclamation, which might annoy fans of the two participating countries.

This new proclamation could prevent supporters from two African nations from attending the World Cup in the United States.

The order was introduced on Tuesday. And it suspends entry into the US for two African nations, covering short-term visits for tourism and work.

As a result, fans from both countries hoping to travel to World Cup matches hosted on American soil may not get entry.

Senegal are in Group I alongside France, Norway, and the winner of a play-off involving Bolivia, Iraq, or Suriname.

Their fixtures against France and Norway will take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

But their third group match will be played in Toronto, where supporters will still be able to attend.

Ivory Coast face a similar scenario in Group E with Germany, Ecuador, and Curaçao.

Their matches against Ecuador and Curaçao will take place in the United States. But their clash against Germany will take place in Canada.

Previous executive orders from the Donald Trump government include exemptions for players, staff, and immediate family members. So, it means footballers will have no problem entering the US.

However, the restrictions create a major barrier for fans. A White House statement said (via The Sun):

“The Proclamation includes exceptions for lawful permanent residents, existing visa holders, certain visa categories like athletes and diplomats, and individuals whose entry serves U.S. national interests.”

This move will surely add to the growing concerns of fans who are planning to travel to watch the 2026 tournament.

It follows widespread criticism over rising ticket prices and limited affordable allocations for fans.
