Roberto Carlos has been admitted to a hospital in Brazil, according to AS. The former footballer was in his home country when the situation unfolded.
Initially, the 52-year-old visited a medical centre to undergo tests. The reason for the visit was to examine a small blood clot in one of his legs. At that stage, there was no major problem.
However, doctors decided to carry out further checks as part of the evaluation. As a result, they performed a full body scan during the visit.
Soon after, the findings raised concern. The scan revealed that a significant percentage of his heart was not functioning properly.
Because of this, doctors decided to take immediate action. Following the diagnosis, Roberto Carlos was admitted to the hospital.
The medical team prepared him for surgery without delay. Doctors planned a catheter insertion procedure.
Initially, the estimation was that the operation would last around forty minutes. However, complications arose during the surgery.
Because of those complications, the procedure lasted well beyond what the doctors estimated. As a result, the surgery lasted close to three hours.
Despite the difficulties faced during the operation, doctors were able to complete the procedure successfully. After the surgery, the doctors declared that Carlos was out of danger.
However, doctors decided to keep him under close medical supervision. The aim is to closely monitor his condition during recovery.
Meanwhile, doctors have confirmed that he will remain under observation for at least another forty-eight hours.
Medical staff want to ensure there are no further complications before considering discharge. Shortly after, Roberto Carlos also shared a brief update on his condition. He said:
“I’m fine now and being closely monitored.”
Those words helped ease concern among fans across the football world. Messages of support followed as updates on his condition emerged.
The former left back is currently an ambassador for Real Madrid and remains a respected figure at the club.
For now, attention remains on his recovery, as the football world continues to follow the situation involving Roberto Carlos closely.
