Cristiano Ronaldo has had a mixed time in Saudi Arabia. While playing for Al-Nassr, the Portuguese has delivered goals consistently.
However, football is a team game and not an individual game. So, Al-Nassr has a team has failed to win a major trophy with Ronaldo.
In fact, the only trophy they won was the Arab Club Cup. But FIFA does not recognise that as an official trophy. However, this season, things could have changed.
Al-Nassr were leading the Saudi Pro League table for the majority of the time. However, in recent months, they slipped up big time, giving Al Hilal the upper hand once again in the title race.
The Riyadh-based club is just three points behind the league leaders. However, internally, a massive clash is brewing with Cristiano Ronaldo leading the way.
According to A BOLA (via MARCA), Cristiano Ronaldo has refused to play for Al-Nassr. The 40-year-old has no dispute with the club.
In fact, the Portuguese international is standing up for his club. Ronaldo believes that the Saudi Public Investment Fund, or the PIF, is not running the club properly.
Other prominent clubs that the PIF owns, such as Al Hilal, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Ahli, they are getting favours from the PIF, and that is why Ronaldo is reportedly unhappy.
The Portuguese wants to win trophies for Al-Nassr and wants PIF to back his club with signings. Also, there are rumours that if things don’t improve, he could leave Saudi Arabia.
As Cristiano Ronaldo is the face of the Saudi Pro League, it will be interesting to see what the PIF does to find a solution to this crisis.
