Cristiano Ronaldo could be heading toward a surprise summer exit. The Al-Nassr forward is reportedly frustrated with the situation behind the scenes at the Saudi Pro League club.
According to reports, Ronaldo is unhappy with how the Public Investment Fund has handled transfer business this season.
He believes rival clubs have received preferential treatment, while Al-Nassr have been left short. That frustration has now spilt over.
Al-Nassr signed just one player during the January window. That was 21-year-old midfielder Haydeer Abdulkareem.
This came despite repeated requests from head coach Jorge Jesus to strengthen the squad. As a result, Ronaldo made his feelings clear.
He complained internally and then refused to play in Monday’s Saudi Pro League clash against Al-Riyadh.
Now, a report from Portuguese outlet Record claims that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is considering a move away from the club.
Crucially, the report reveals that Ronaldo has a release clause in his current deal. The clause could be worth £43 million
The Portuguese inserted this clause when he signed a new two-year contract last summer. However, triggering that clause would only be part of the challenge.
Ronaldo remains the highest-paid footballer in the world, earning roughly £488,000 per day. His wages alone could limit the number of clubs willing or able to make a move.
Recently, reports have emerged that Manchester United could try to sign him because of Michael Carrick. However, it is unlikely that the Red Devils will tread on the same path again.
Despite his age, the forward continues to deliver on the pitch. He has scored 18 goals in 22 appearances this season and remains determined to keep playing at the highest level.
Ronaldo is currently sitting on 960 career goals. And now, with a release clause revealed, his future may once again be up for debate.
